Ramzi Shalabi Ramzi Jamal Shalabi (b. 1987) is a self-taught multimedia artist whose work revolves mostly around music, visual art and cinema. He believes in using the resources available at hand and following his own intuitive impulses. For him, art is not about intellectualization, it is a natural process of letting the unconscious speak, like having a dream. To ask for meaning is to misunderstand the process. A lifelong automatic drawer/doodler and reader of books on painters such as Dali, he finally opened up to making paintings in 2020, with the final push towards painting coming from the discovery of the artist Jack Whitten and his roommate letting him know that she had a few cans of paint in the garage that he could use if he wanted to try. Since then he has steadily been creating paintings, always taking a fresh step in a new direction.
His influences range from the morphogenetic field, religion & ritual, his Syrian father and Irish-Hungarian mother, his maternal grandmother who was a notable abstract artist herself, dreams, memories of life, and nature.
He is a Pisces rising and shares a birthday with Madame Blavatsky and Sir Mix A Lot.
The Modern Composer John Cage and the Abstract Expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat died on Ramzi's fifth and first birthdays, respectively. For whatever its worth. He also shares the same Neptune natal placement as Pablo Picasso.
