Andy Haynes
|
With his focus on figurative oil painting, Andy Haynes work haunts the viewer with imagery from dreams, nightmares and everything in between. Haynes channels Bosch in both the whimsy and exaggeration of his real and imagined (often hybrid) subjects, and in Haynes attention to human folly. Like Bosch, Haynes is attracted to the themes of contemporarily morality, both in its best and darkest moments. He does not preach to his audience, rather laying out an ambiguous narrative map full of symbolism with which he invites the viewer to complete his journey. The result is a melding of the contemporary; Pop; Surrealism; and even the Northern Renaissance at its most stylized, detailed and subversively clever.
Haynes graduated from Laguna College of Art & Design with a BFA in 2005. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Megan, con Warren, and their cat Rainbow.
