Press Statement"Plastic Prophets of Vinyl Redemption"
A unique pop-culture explosion featuring work by John Purlia that runs from February 14th - March 7th.
Distinction Gallery is dedicated to their goal of exposing the top talents in contemporary arts to the southern California region by hosting an adventurous showing entitled "Plastic Prophets of Vinyl Redemption". Artist John Purlia explores various narratives through the photographs of his diorama's that celebrate the toys and imagery of our pop culture past. The artist himself will be attending the opening reception on Saturday, February 14th from 6-11 PM and will be on hand to answer questions and discuss his work. Wine, chocolates and live music by Bogenville will highlight this opening reception. Be sure to check out the limited edition custom flipbooks that will available at this showing.
The entire "Plastic Prophets of Vinyl Redemptoion" exhibition will be available for viewing through Saturday, March 7th. Distinction Gallery will also be featuring the "Sub 1K" Gallery with works priced for less than $1000 featuring renowned artists from around the world. "The Alley" will show an additional 200 works of art. All in addition to the 14 artist studios featuring 19 local artists that are always open to the public. "It is never too late to be what you might have been"
John Purlia was a man with no camera. Most of his adult life was spent without one. But it was this image capturing device that would most profoundly shape his artistic directions. His first forays into the world of photography produced competent but ordinary results. But in 2004, according to the artist himself, a muse rode in on a beam of moonlight and inspired John to explore his childhood love of toys, vinyl records and found objects.
"Plastic Prophets of Vinyl Redemption" shows February 14th through March 7th.
Distinction is a 7000 square foot building which houses a gallery and 14 artist studios ranging in size from 150 to 800 square feet. The Gallery features contemporary and cutting edge art work with a soft focus on Urban Surrealism. Distinction exhibits work by emerging and internationally acclaimed artists and is located at: 317 East Grand Avenue, Escondido, CA 92025.
