Press StatementArtHatch presents two distinctive new exhibits entitled "Labours of the Months" by Tim Vermeulen and "Vignettes" by Ivan Unwin. These two extraordinary artists will display inspired works that provoke surreal visions and complex imagination, by captivating the viewer with their profound intellect.
Drawing inspiration from the popular Medieval and Renaissance theme of "Labours of the Months", Tim Vermeulen takes the traditional labours as a springboard for investigating a contemporary world of contradictions, polarities, and paradox. Vermeulen says, "My work is part of a process of wrestling for self-discovery through autobiographical narratives, in many cases involving self-portraiture."
Using the human form, patterns that echo M.C. Escher, and a touch of political theory, Ivan Unwin has created a masterpiece with his new series of paintings. With a broad artistic background in the British Art Scene, this now Canadian artist is successfully exploring his talents as a traditional visual artist.
The Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 6-10pm with Live Music, complimentary Stone Brewery Beer for guests 21 of age or older.
